It rained in Lisieux – Hooray!- but not for very long, so I didn’t get very far before it was time to pack up and be on the move again. We stopped to see what might be going on in Vendeuvre, there was a castle (or at least a big house, with a big garden) there.
And then we went to see William the Conqueror’s castle too.
This sightseeing lark is tiring!
Sunday was a day off from cycling, that was a bit of a relief. Camped by River Orne where there was kayaking and I could have a proper relaxation wandering around near the tent while Brian went off to play with the water. I like rain which makes the paths slippery, not great bodies of water that make lots of noise and splash. I can glide, but I can’t swim, so I was quite happy not to be joining in on a boat. He seems to enjoy himself doing all sorts of things that I can’t – boats, beer, bottles of wine… (it all begins with a “B”). I can go home whenever I want though, no need to book!!
Monday we were back to long rides through the countryside, I spent a lot of time sleeping (hiding) in the bar bag, as Brian kept on about the wildlife (Birds of prey! Tell me if you see a thrush, they’re mean).
More rain – yes!! so much so that Brian started out late from the campsite and I had a long night and morning to enjoy the plant life and explore a bit, must get some exercise or I shall be weighing down the front of the bike soon.
Lunch at Mayenne by the river, some nice juicy plants on the riverbank here, and those smelly sandals have finally been dumped in favour of a new bargain pair of slippers. I shan’t have to hold my breath as I get in the bag so much any more.
Moving on by the river (he does like the river rides, and I suppose it is cooler under the trees, I shall just have to get used to being so close to them) there was a cycle railway that we passed, and a long. long ride, until we arrived at the campsite in Craon – which was closed! Ah Hah! – wild camping then, but no, Brian found a sneaky way in and set up the tent near someone else. And they talked for ages, keeping me awake with their tales of the road.
