Day 29 17/8/16
63 miles (Moutiers to Ollone sur Mer) Average speed 11.2 Top speed 23.6 mph
Up early and down to the boulangerie for bread and my first croissant au raisin. Followed route euro 1 until it finished??? Then back to Beauvoir sur Mer. Going into the Vendée found tourist info. Riding mainly on roads today even when the signs said I should be on velocity route. Roads are a much better surface.
Went via St. Gervais, St Urbain, Le Perrier, St Jean-de-Monts where I had lunch and a grumpy young kid wouldn’t let me charge iPad after he’d charged me €2 for a Sprite.
St Jean-de-Monts beach was hectic to say the least! Lots of people on bikes that didn’t have a clue what they were doing.
Lots of roadkill today, hedgehogs, birds of prey, rabbits. Saw lots of lovely places but iPad battery dead so very few pictures.
Stopped at first campsite; they wanted €20, second turned out to be a naturist site (not really my thing). While looking for a campsite I found a wine shop and tried a glass of local brew, – bought a bottle for €6. I considered wild camping but there were “No Camping” signs everywhere in the forest.
Found my way to Ollone-sur-Mer but now it’s raining so I need my tent!
Back in the dry. Another good day today with high mileage and good roads. Even the main roads are quiet. Saw another kingfisher which lifted my mood. Lots of long flat roads made for a good day even if wind wasn’t always from behind. Those beans didn’t seem to make much difference.
Had dinner of chicken pasta and wine before the rain came. Early night. Not sure about all these noisy beach campsites? Too many people and too much entertainment. Mine was OK but all the neighbouring ones kept me awake with loud music.
Campsite €12.50
