Day 869 6th December 2018
36 miles (Batu Pahat to Muar) Average speed 12 mph Top speed 25 mph
We were up at 7 and out to brekkie at 8.30. We found an Indian cafe for two roti with eggs, dhal and two coffees. Then we packed up and said goodbye to Jerry who gave us some local cookies.
We got to the 5 road and it was an easy flat ride. After an hour I stopped and waited for Lucas and we had iced tea. I waited for Don while Lucas carried on and we agreed to meet for lunch. I gave Don the address and map photos and he agreed to go at his own pace. I caught up with Lucas before the lunch stop and cooled down at a Chinese temple.

Rest stop
The only cafe was pretty dirty with little food but a very interesting man serving so we had a drink while the rain came down. Then went into town at Kluang for lunch of seafood noodles and tea.

Roundabout at Kluang
Once the rain stopped we set off again and soon stopped again for sugar cane juice with another interesting guy. We made our way to Muar and fought our way through the rush hour traffic and found the hostel on the wrong side of the carriageway. We crossed without too much trouble and were met by Sventan, who welcomed us and knew we were coming from contact with SK. It’s a great hostel which is all new and really chilled. We met Susan from Leicester and chatted while I admired her surly long haul trucker ( no it’s not a euphemism but a bike!) and settled in for a good shower.

Celebrating 18000 miles riding
I found a chalkboard to celebrate clocking up 18000 miles before Lucas and I went to dinner at the Ship Malay restaurant. It was very tasty, I had the spicy Tomyum seafood and we shared two plates of calamari. The heavens opened up and we waited for the rain to subside, but in the end took some carrier bags for our valuables and made a run for it. After getting soaked I realised I’d left my glasses there so had to go back once again in the rain. After a coffee and a chat with Don I turned in for the night at 10.30.
